Jimmy Pocket Towel: The Most Important Item a Hitchhiker Can Carry Beth Snyder March 24, 2014 A towel is, as I’m certain you all know, “the most massively useful thing any interstellar Hitchhiker can carry.” I won’t go into all the reasons for that, but I will point out that I rarely am without one myself, because you just never know how handy it can be. Now Jimmy Towel has actually improved on your basic towel, and I need one. The Jimmy Pocket Towel actually comes in several varieties depending on your need. There’s the Dapper or Dazzle Jimmy ($38 US), the Sporty Jimmy ($24 US) and Knockoff Jimmy ($18 US). Why would you pay such a ridiculously high price for a towel? Because they aren’t just towels; they’re environmentally-friendly, pocket-sized, quick-drying towels that reduce your carbon footprint, reduce waste, and can go anywhere. Each one is made of two pieces of highly absorbent microfiber terrycloth with a synthetic chamois cloth sandwiched between, attached to a water-resistant shell you can slip in your pocket. All you have to do is pull it out prior to washing your hands (to avoid getting your pocket or bag wet), then dry your hands on it instead of the paper towels or air-dryers in public restrooms. Then you just fold it back up, close its case, and stick it back in your pocket. You can dry your hands about five times before it becomes too wet to use again, so when possible, you should let it air dry for a few minutes (it dries quickly, speed dependent on ambient temperature and airflow). It’s recommended that you hang the towel by its tag outside its case overnight, and that you wash it once a week. The entire towel insert is removable from its case for ease of laundering, and is machine washable. Extra towels are available for $9 US each, so there’s no worry about being caught without one. The cases and towels are available in a variety of colours and patterns, making them a fit with pretty much any personal style. Imagine: not only will you always have your absolutely necessary towel, but you can avoid using paper towels entirely. Which in turn leads to less waste for landfills, less environmental impact, and general betterment of the world around you. I find myself wondering if somewhere the Jimmy Towel is embroidered with “42”, because it truly does seem to be the answer to everything. Source: The Gadgeteer Share This With The World!
