This Isn’t Your Grandfather’s Mobility Scooter Beth Snyder September 14, 2013 Extras There are a wide variety of reasons why a person could end up needing a mobility scooter, and unfortunately many of those reasons mean those who are young will have to use one. They are available in a wide variety of styles, and can be customized to a certain extent to reflect both the user’s personality and any particular needs they may have. But most of those customizations are of the standard variety, involving colour, carrying baskets or compartments and the like. Which really isn’t any fun at all. Enter Lance Greathouse of Greathouse Labs in Phoenix, Arizona. As you can see in the above picture, he does customization in ways far outside the standard. Because yes, that is in fact a flamethrower-equipped mobility scooter. If that’s all there was to it, it would be fabulous enough, but there’s more. The scooter itself is actually an electric golf cart with all terrain tires and a seat from a helicopter. Which means there is virtually nowhere it can’t take you, sidewalks be damned. This particular model he calls Lord Humungous, but he and his cohorts can and do create a wide variety of designs that are limited only by their imaginations and the dreams of those who use their devices. Check this thing out…it’s amazing! [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2S4PrBTZCI] Lord Humungous took about a month and only $1,000 to build. I think I’m going to have to mention them to my friend who uses a scooter…I bet they could come up with something wonderful that would fit into pretty much anyone’s budget.
