Mobile World Congress is happening, and unlike the U.S. Congress, they’re actually getting stuff done. Zing! HP revealed the Slate 7, a $169 Android tablet that’s headed towards an April release in the States. The 16:9 display runs at 1024 x 600 resolution and the tablet is powered by a dual-core 1.6 GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.

As someone who’s terrible with money, I always love a good budget tablet, but just how good is the Slate 7? Tech Crunch didn’t seem particularly impressed, citing jerky performance issues and delay times when starting applications, and coming to an overall impression that HP just wasn’t trying to distinguish themselves from any competition.

To be fair, these issues could be ironed out before the tablet ships in a couple of months; we’ll just have to see. As it stands now, the Slate 7 sounds like just another cheap tablet in a very crowded market.
