This morning I got a phone call from my health insurance company. This is typically NEVER a good thing. But she started the conversation by telling me she understood I had just been released from the hospital after a pretty invasive surgery, and didn’t want to keep me on the phone long. After inquiring about how I feel and how recovery is coming, she explained the real reason she’d called. Apparently, I was only pre-approved for a hospital stay through the 6th, but I came home on the 7th. Because of that, the computer automatically kicked a letter to me saying they were refusing to pay for the last day because it wasn’t medically necessary (at which point I laughed hysterically, because…really?!?). She just wanted to make sure I knew to ignore that letter, because once the hospital provides them with more information that will no longer be true. It’s only because I was released on a weekend that it even happened. I don’t know who these people are, or what they did with the folks who used to work for my insurance company, but I would like to keep them forever and ever!
