google-wallet

Google always seems to have a lot of irons in the fire, so you’d be forgiven for thinking that not all of the company’s projects are going to see the light of day. This one did, however: a Google Wallet debit card. The idea was kicked around for a little while before becoming a reality and now the first batch of cards is expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

As you would expect, the cards take funds directly out of your Google Wallet account. There are no annual or monthly fees, though you’ll still be subjected to any fees from external sources, like ATM withdrawal fees. You’ll also get instant notifications on your phone whenever you make a purchase, which can be helpful or annoying, depending on how you look at it.

The card is currently available in the US and can be ordered from the official website or through the mobile app.

Nothing Google does surprises me anymore. If you use Google Wallet, order a card, throw it on the upcoming Coin, and enjoy the future.
