GIGABYTE Releases Urgent BIOS Update to Certain X79 Series Motherboards

GIGABYTE has formally announced a required update to some of their X79 motherboard lineup. Normally BIOS updates are minor tweaks here and there to improve performance, stability, and/or compatibility. In this case, the BIOS update is focused almost exclusively on stability.

It seems some of the MOSFETs on the motherboards were part of a bad bin that may under-perform. To address this issue, the BIOS update will alter some of the voltage regulation specs to ensure these components don’t overheat. This BIOS update should not limit any BIOS options but could possibly affect overclocking potential.

GIGABYTE states that after the update, anyone who is unsatisfied is eligible to an unconditional replacement. While bad, I do like the quick response and resolution to the situation. The possibly affected boards are listed below along with the link to the update and @BIOS software.
