My dad, because he’s never satisfied with what’s on and he’s content flipping through the channels, spending his day catching tidbits of shows here and there. For those of us who know what we want to watch, all-in-one cable subscriptions have become unwanted financial burdens. The Canadian government seems to have realized this and will soon require cable providers to unbundle channels and offer them on an individual basis. Certain providers already do this, but many do not, offering only bundles that contain sometimes hundreds of channels. Nobody needs that many channels. Depending on what the channels are priced at, it’s quite possible that Internet-based services like Netflix will continue to be a better deal than traditional cable, but who knows?
