Mobile carrier FreedomPop made quite an announcement today. Not only are they doubling down on their existing free plan, they’re offering the first-ever 100 percent free mobile service with free voice, free text, and free data.

Of course, it’s not all unlimited. Users will get a guaranteed 500MB of 4G data and 200 free anytime voice minutes. Texting is, in fact, unlimited though. Also, FreedomPop users can call each other without using their minutes. It should be noted that calls are going to be routed through mobile VoIP, though, and not through more conventional cellular calling. Texts go through the same way.

This new plan has been called a “game changer” by people outside of FreedomPop and they could be totally right. This is a very big deal. It also says wonderful things about technology that this sort of service can be offered free of charge.

Speaking of FreedomPop, our own Michael Kwan will be reviewing their new Freedom Spot Overdrive Pro next week, so be sure to keep an eye out for that. I can’t wait to see what he thinks of it.

UPDATE: The full written review of the FreedomPop Overdrive Pro 3G/4G hotspot has now been posted.
