The Four Players – Gritty, Dark Super Mario. Bros in Real Life (Videos) Dylan Duarte November 15, 2013 Mario is one of the most beloved videogame characters of all-time, but his live-action adaptations have left a lot to be desired. If you look to the world of fan art, you’ll see a lot of darker, more realistic interpretations of the character and the world he inhabits. Screenwriter Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Hunstman, upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) wrote and directed four live-action Super Mario Bros. shorts that have a darkness all their own, depicting Luigi as a recovering addict and Toad as a soldier, as well as Peach and Mario in their own respective shorts. There are Easter eggs unsurprisingly hidden throughout the four shorts, each of which runs three to four minutes long.
