Facebook Bug Exposes Email Addresses, Phone Numbers Dylan Duarte June 21, 2013 Another day, another security leak. Facebook is no stranger to security problems, so it really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that another leak has taken place, this time affecting no fewer than six million accounts, exposing email addresses, phone numbers, and other account information. The social networking site allows you to upload contact lists or address books as a way of finding more people you know on Facebook. They also let you download an archive of your Facebook account through the Download Your Information tool. A bug somewhere in there made it so that when users downloaded their Facebook accounts, they got a lot more contacts and information than they intended to get. According to Facebook, the bug has actually been live since last year but was only discovered last week. The security team effectively squashed the bug in 24 hours. They also say that the leak isn’t as bad as it seems, that the information downloaded wasn’t tied to specific accounts making the numbers and address unidentifiable. via Tech Crunch Share This With The World!
