DestapaBanana: The Gadget You Didn’t Know You Needed

There I was, minding my own business, when a friend posted a link to this marvelous machine on my Facebook timeline. I had not been previously aware that I needed one of these, but I immediately took steps to see how I could make it happen. Because I love bananas. And chocolate. And most of all, Nutella. And I make microwave single-serving mug cakes involving all three of those things on a somewhat regular basis. I had no idea it would even be possible to stuff a banana with the amazing goodness that is Nutella, but now that I do it’s imperative that I get my hands on one immediately.

DestapaBanana is currently only available in Argentina, but I’ve already contacted them in hopes they want to send one to me to review instead of drooling all over my keyboard while I look at pictures of it on the internet. This simple machine is pure genius. Using it appears to be something even the least mechanically inclined among us could handle.

Just insert an unpeeled banana into DestapaBanana, extract its core using the included tool, and fill the inside with your favourite treat. Then just carry the banana, still in its peel, wherever you need to take it and enjoy a sweet treat at your convenience. I even already own a hard plastic banana carrying case, so they don’t get smashed in my work bag, so it’s like I was already prepared for this.

They offer several varieties of fillings (chocolate, dulce de leche, and “fruit” – which appears to be strawberry), or I’m guessing it would be easy enough to use my beloved Nutella instead. Peanut butter would also be excellent! I’m also thinking you could fill it with something like strawberry or peanut butter, then peel it, dip it in chocolate, and freeze it for a welcome summertime treat. The possibilities of this thing are limited only by your imagination.

No word yet on pricing or availability, but you can be sure I’m keeping my eye on it. Someday, DestapaBanana will be mine. All mine! (Insert maniacal laughter here.) I can’t believe no one has ever thought of this before! The “promo kit” appears to come with not just one, but two DestapaBanana devices, as well as a sample tube of flavoured filling, although I could be wrong and they could just be showing it’s available in either red or yellow. I don’t need two; one will be sufficient for my sweet tooth snacking needs.
