Cortana Coming with Windows 9 Threshold Dylan Duarte August 11, 2014 It’s almost time to put on your Master Chief helmet and take up the mantle. Cortana, Microsoft’s answer to Apple’s Siri, is set to ship with Windows Threshold. Threshold is the code name for what is expected to be Windows 9 and will ship in Spring 2015. According to The Verge’s sources, Cortana will play a major role in this latest version of Windows. In early versions of Threshold, Cortana has been a separate app, but this is thought to be something of a test run for a more integrated version of the product when Windows 9 actually ships. Microsoft has been updating Cortana for Windows Phone every two weeks with additional data points and features and these upgrades are expected to make their way to the Windows 9 version of the application. A preview version of Windows 9 is expected to pop up later this year which will let people check out the new Start Menu, “Metro-style” apps, and hopefully Cortana too. The digital assistant has of course been available on Windows Phone for a while, but it’ll be interesting to see how its use differs on desktop PCs and laptops. Share This With The World!
