Convertible PCs are hardly new — the flippy IBM ThinkPads were around decades ago — but they’ve really picked up in popularity in recent years, maybe because we like to watch so much video and poke at so many touchscreens. The thing is that these 2-in-1s are generally compact and portable, which is exactly the opposite of the all new Dell Inspiron 7000, available in a gargantuan 17-inch size.

Dell is saying that this is the world’s first 17-inch 2-in-1 laptop. If you thought the 18.4-inch Samsung Galaxy View was a bit of an oddball, then the 17-inch Inspiron 7000 might be a little more practical since it actually runs regular old Windows 10 and it really can fold up like a laptop for ease of travel. I’ve never been a big fan (no pun intended) of 17-inch laptops, but I recognize their utility.

As you can imagine, this big 2-in-1 borrows much of its DNA from its smaller and cheaper cousins. You get a 360-degree hinge that will allow you to flip that full HD display around into tent mode or tablet mode to suit your purposes. Possible configurations get as high as a Core i7 processor, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD (or 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD), and Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. you’ll want that optional USB-C adapter for HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, and USB 3.0.

Indeed, if you’re not game for something quite so large, the Inspiron 7000 will also be offered in 13-inch and 15-inch variations. Dell also announced some entries in its Inspiron 5000 and Inspiron 3000 series too. Further details can be found in the press release below. The Inspiron 7000 starts at $999 Canadian and is shipping now.
