Some phones, like the Samsung Galaxy S7, have built-in support for existing wireless charging standards like Qi and Powermat. Even then, you still need to align those contact points just right to get a charge going. Not to mention that most phones don’t have wireless charging support out of the box. The folks at Energysquare say they’ve come up with a better solution.

It’s still not about charging your phones through the air from up to a meter away, but the Energysquare solution is effectively compatible with practically every smartphone and tablet. For now, they’ve got support for micro-USB, Lightning, and USB-C. That pretty much covers the bases.

What you do is place a sticker on the back of your device and one end of this sticker connects to your phone’s charging port. The sticker, as you can see in the rendering above, is quite a bit smaller than some of the wireless charging cases that we’ve seen.

Once the sticker has been adhered, you can place your device on one of an Energysquare charging mat and, by way of a more efficient conductive charging technology, the battery on your phone still start to pick up some juice. The mat can support multiple devices at the same time and there is no induction and no electromagnetic waves. The surface is inert unless a battery is detected.

The 39 Euro (about $44) early bird backing level on the Kickstarter page is all taken up, but you can still get in on the next wave at the 59 Euro ($66) level to get one SquareOne charging pad, plus five stickers, with delivery expected in December.
