A New Obstacle For Crutches Beth Snyder May 13, 2010 So…it’s been raining for days, and this morning I finally got the thunderstorm I’ve been waiting for since last fall. All good! However, on my way into the house tonight I discovered a crutches obstacle I hadn’t thought about before…earthworms. Yep, after the rain ends, they come out in droves…all over my sidewalks. I have no problem with them in general, and over the years have gotten very good at avoiding stepping on them. However, when you’re on crutches you need to remember you have more surfaces with which to squish them, and when you’re a touch tipsy from having spent an evening out with your sister it’s a little more of a challenge. Luckily, I’m at the point where I don’t necessarily use them in the house much other than for balance. I’ll have to remember to clean the bottoms before I walk very far with them in the morning just in case.
