VAIO is launching a sleek, mid-range phone that has a stupid name and runs a dying operating system. What could go wrong?

The new VAIO phone is called – drumroll pleaseThe Phone Biz, and I assure you your chain is not being yanked. It runs Windows 10 and is a 5.5-inch device with a 13-megapixel camera, Snapdragon 617 chip, and 3GB of RAM. Mid-range all the way, but not a bad device. However, it launched in Japan for ¥50,000, which is a steep $400 USD.

Right now it’s unknown if the phone will become available outside of Japan, but considering that Windows phones aren’t doing very well at all, I don’t know how much it will matter if the phone sells in other territories. It’s a nice looking phone, and it has the hardware to be a decent mid-range handset, but it may be too little late. The name doesn’t help.

Cue the sensationalist headlines: is The Phone Biz dead?!
