TEAC SR-LUXi Plays Tunes, Wakes You Up to Light Beth Snyder July 31, 2012 It’s been fairly well established that waking up is often a problem for me, since responsibility says I cannot always sleep during my preferred times. Which means I’m pretty much always looking for a better mousetrap. Or alarm clock. Whatever. Call me skeptical about this one, though…I just can’t see someone such as myself waking up to light, but it apparently works for a lot of people. The TEAC SR-LUXi is actually an iPod dock as well as an alarm clock (and a bedside lamp). Instead of a blaring klaxon or annoying beeping, this one wakes you up using light, in an effort to smoothly and naturally wake you up using your circadian rhythms. Sounds a lot more pleasant, doesn’t it? About a half hour before you’re supposed to get up, the light box starts glowing, and gets gradually brighter until the hormones the light triggers in your body wake you up calmly rather than shooting you out of bed with a heart attack. Me, I’m not convinced it works. I’d have to try one to see. But fortunately for people like me there is a backup alarm that does have sound, so there are no worries about being late for work. You can choose between waking to music on your iPod, the tuner, or a standard buzzer. In addition to the alarm, it also has a snooze button (a necessity for me) and a sleep timer so you can fall asleep to your tunes. It even comes with a remote control in case you’re one of those people who prefers your alarm clock across the room. If you want to give one a try, it’s going to run you about $80.00 US.
