Steve Ballmer Comments on Surface RT, $900 Million Loss Dylan Duarte July 26, 2013 File this one under “Duh,” although I don’t know why you’d have a “duh” folder. After Microsoft reported a $900 million loss on the Surface RT, it was immediately apparent that the company simply produced too many Surface units and sold far too little. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has now gone on record confirming that this is the case. Ballmer said that Microsoft built a “few” more device than they could sell, then representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records showed up to give him the medal for the biggest understatement of the year. He also said that the recent 30% price cut was necessary to ship more units. Ballmer went on to say that Microsoft isn’t selling as many Windows devices in general as they want to, referring to phones, tablets, and PCs. He cited the lack of Windows devices in stores and the company is now focusing on the back-to-school period to get sales up. Via The Verge Share This With The World!
