No matter how old I get, no matter how tough I am, no matter how bravely I can face down just about anything… spiders can reduce me to a quivering heap of a three-year-old girl in 2.4 seconds. I hate them. It’s not that I’m afraid of them exactly; it’s that they creep me out so thoroughly, it quite literally makes my flesh crawl. Seriously. Which means if I find one in my house, it has to go immediately. The trouble is, I don’t want to get anywhere near them to either squish them or catch them in something to toss them outside, so then I’m stuck. What I usually end up doing is throwing a paper towel over them and then stepping on it, but I’m always afraid they’re going to crawl out and go up my pantleg.

I’m sure you’ve seen as many gadgets for trapping bugs as I have, but most of them don’t really work on spiders. This one is specially designed to grab onto the nasty little beasts and let them go only when and where you choose. What you get is a long pole (it measures 65cm) with a handle and bristles at the end. All you need to do is pull the trigger to open the bristles, then simply release it when you’ve snared your prey. If you’re concerned with their well-being, don’t be. It won’t squish them or harm them in any way, it just holds them until you can deposit them outside.

The handle and rod are made of plastic, the bristles are made of nylon, and it comes with a clear plastic cover for the bristles as well. It’s not just used for spiders, however. You can use it on bees, small moths, or any other nasty little creepy crawlies. The best part is you never have to worry about batteries dying as you would with other similar bug catchers, plus there are no chemicals to harm yourself, your family, your pets or your belongings. You can pick one up for just 9.99.
