I’ve been sucked down a bit of a retro vortex on the Nintendo Switch lately. I picked up classic Neo Geo fighting games King of Fighters ’98 and World Heroes and I just nabbed Sonic Heroes too. If you’re a glutton for nostalgia, you’ll want to prime up those web browsers and gas up the car, because SNES Classic pre-orders are now being taken at several retailers.

This aligns perfectly with earlier reports indicating that SNES Classic pre-orders would start in late August. They’ve even got the final release date and final pricing scheme down, at last, with the new miniaturized retro console slated for launch on September 29. In Canada, you can expect to pay $99.99 at retail (way more via flippers on Craigslist and eBay, of course) and it’ll be $79.99 MSRP in the United States.

As a quick refresher, the retro mini console will come bundled with 21 games, including Donkey Kong Country, F-Zero, Super Mario Kart, and the unreleased Star Fox 2. You’ll also get a couple of wired controllers, this time hopefully with slightly longer cables. We also hear that you’ll be treated to a rewind feature for cheating your way to victory helping you get past difficult parts of the games.

In Canada, pre-orders are being taken at Best Buy (already sold out) and EB Games (both online and in-store). In the US, you can find SNES Classic pre-orders at Target, GameStop, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Walmart and Amazon, plus special bundles at Thinkgeek.

If the rabid fervor over last year’s NES Classic is any indication, you’ll need to be on the ball if you want to pick up an SNES Mini too. Good luck. Do a barrel roll.
