Samsung to Unveil New Smartwatch at Google I/O Dylan Duarte June 23, 2014 Google’s I/O event is rapidly approaching and rumors about what will and won’t show up are flying every direction. The latest report says that Samsung will unveil their latest smartwatch, which will run on Google’s Android Wear operating system. Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch used stock Android as its OS, which proved to be a little much for the wearable device. Samsung’s follow-up, the Gear 2, used Tizen, an OS built in-house by Samsung. Hoping that the third time is the charm, this newest smartwatch has reportedly been designed for Google Wear from the ground up. LG has its G Watch smartwatch and Motorola is jumping in as well with the Moto 360. Throw in Apple’s iWatch and you’ve got a market that’s getting increasingly crowded. According to a report by the International Data Corporation, sales of wearables could hit over 19 million units in 2014. It only makes sense for so many companies to jump on the smartwatch bandwagon. I haven’t purchased a smartwatch yet and I don’t have any plans to pick one up any time soon, but a Samsung watch designed around Google’s wearable OS certainly sounds like the way I would go. Details on the device are unknown at this time, but Google I/O takes place on Tuesday, June 25th, so we won’t have to wait very long to hear more about it. via Tech Times Share This With The World!
