If you’re a gadget fiend like so many of us, here’s a protip that should help keep your wallet from getting too light: you don’t need to get everything new. Gadget-collecting isn’t a cheap hobby, especially when you prefer to buy everything brand-spanking new, but spending so much money on something as iffy as used electronics is scary in its own right. Unless they come straight from the source, that is.

Rumor has it that Samsung is going to start taking the phones that are exchanged for upgrades, fixing them up, and then selling them at a discounted price. Refurbished goods are a great, affordable way to get your gadget fix while trusting that the product is in good, working condition. It’s probably safe to assume that there would be some sort of warranty involved, too.

Right now there are no details as to how deep the discounts would be or even what markets this program would run in. Samsung regularly puts out high-end products, and with that quality comes heavy price tags. A refurbished program could help the company gain a stronger foothold in stronger markets, and on the consumer side it would give those on modest budgets access to phones normally out of their price range. Keep your fingers crossed that the rumors are true.
