Samsung Galaxy Note9: What You Need to Know Michael Kwan August 9, 2018 News At the Samsung Unpacked event earlier today, Samsung officially announced the Galaxy Note9. Unsurprisingly, the official unveiling confirmed much of what we’d been hearing for weeks. This is pretty much the flagship Android smartphone you’d been expecting. Just expect to open up your wallet extra wide if you want one. The key highlights you’ll want to know about include: The Super AMOLED screen is massive at 6.4-inches at quad HD+ (2960 x 1440 pixel) resolution. The larger 4,000 mAh battery means you’ll last longer between charges. The upgraded S Pen with Bluetooth allows for remote control features, like for the camera and media playback. The Galaxy Note9 still has a headphone jack. The fingerprint sensor is not in-display; it’s located on the back, underneath the dual cameras and flash. In Canada, the Galaxy Note9 will be sold in Midnight Black with a black S Pen and in Ocean Blue with a yellow S Pen. The standard base model comes with 128GB of storage. There’s also a 512GB model that’ll only be sold through Samsung. The dual cameras come with advanced features like Scene Optimizer and Flaw Detection. It’s going to be pricey. The 128GB Galaxy Note9 is $1,299.99 CAD MSRP and the 512GB is $1,629.99 CAD MSRP. Of course, carriers can do what they want for contract pricing. Pre-orders for the carrier versions started this morning with shipments expected to commence on August 24. If you purchase the Galaxy Note9 before August 23, you’ll also get a bonus Samsung Gear IconX ($299.99 retail value). So, this is it folks. We’ve entered in the arena of $1,600+ smartphones. How long until we break the $2,000 mark as an acceptable standard for a top-tier flagship?
