Remember when having a stylus was the de facto standard for a PDA type device? Or when we still had Windows Mobile smartphones? Then, everyone laughed at having a stylus? Well, there’s still plenty of utility there and Samsung is keeping its flagship train going with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 9. And now they’ve announced when they’ll be announcing the thing.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Gets Unpacked on August 9

That’s a Galaxy Note8 at the top of the page, but no one would blame you for thinking it’s the upcoming Galaxy Note 9. I don’t anticipate the overall design will be a huge departure from what they’ve been doing, though we’re not sure if we’ll finally get a vibrating S Pen to go with it.

What you can see is the official announcement or invitation card here. Very clearly Samsung wants to place square focus on that S Pen of theirs, which will apparently be offered in a bold new yellow color. People want a dash of personalities in their digital pens, I guess.

The Samsung Unpacked event is scheduled for Thursday, August 9, which is about six weeks from now. They’ll be hosting at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and the whole thing will be livestreamed on samsung.com. The invite doesn’t make specific mention of the Galaxy Note 9, but that’s probably a pretty safe bet seeing how we can see the S Pen’s button and that’s about it.

While we are cautiously hopeful about getting an in-screen fingerprint reader like the Vivo Apex concept and the production-ready Vivo Nex, they might be saving that for next year’s flagships. What would you most like to see in a Note 9?
