Maybe people just don’t like quirk? Quirky was a neat idea. They were a crowdsourced design company that allowed people to submit and collaborate on inventions. If the idea got enough votes, Quirky would pitch it to one of their bigger partners and if the partners liked it, it would get made. It’s a perfect service for all of those people who think they’ve got good ideas, but don’t have the slightest clue what to do with them.

Unfortunately those people are going to have to just hold on to those ideas for the time being, as the folks at Quirky have just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. They will also sell off all of their assests related to Wink, their home automation hub.

Most people who know the Quirky situation are aware that Wink is likely what sunk the ship, especially after a security update bricked about 10-percent of the hubs out there. And yet while Quirky sinks into bankruptcy, Wink will live on with Flextronics, the company that’s currently poised to purchase it.

And so Quirky ends, not with a bang, but with a Wink.
