PhoneSoap: Charge Your Phone and Clean It Too!

Are you one of those people who takes your phone with you when you use the bathroom? And do you sometimes take out your phone to pass the time while you’re in there? If so, you’re certainly not alone. One in six phones is contaminated with fecal matter, which is not exactly something lovely to think about, but is something that’s important to know. Sure, you wash your hands when you’re done, but you can’t exactly wash your phone. Yuck!

Enter PhoneSoap. This is a nifty little gadget that not only charges your phone, but sanitizes it while it’s charging. Brilliant! Phones are warm, so once bacteria gets on their surface it can thrive and multiply and generally turn your phone into a little colony of disease just waiting to enter your body and take you down. Nobody has time for that. And even if you do have time to be sick, what about your loved ones? It’s entirely possible that the horrible sickness your child is enduring is your fault because you touched them without washing your hands after using your phone.

How PhoneSoap works is by using two UV-C lamps (one for each side of your phone). When you plug your phone in to charge it and close the box, the lamps turn on and go to work. It takes just four minutes to completely sanitize your phone (there is an indicator light on the front to tell you when it’s done), so you can do it often even if you don’t need a charge at the moment. It comes with a Micro USB cable, but there is also a compartment containing a standard USB connector so you can use the cable that came with your phone for charging. The sanitizing cycle only takes four minutes, as I said. But no worries about your phone being bombarded with UV rays for hours and hours…when the cycle is complete, that portion turns off even as your phone continues charging. It’s a win-win situation.

Its size is big enough to accommodate just about any smartphone (inside dimensions 6 L x 3.74 W x .78 H inches [153 L X 95 W X 20 H mm]), and it even has acoustic outlets that will allow you to hear your alarm in case you want to charge/sanitize overnight. You can even put other things in there, although you may not be able to charge them…I’m thinking iPod primarily, but I’m sure you can think of other electronics you own that could use a good cleaning.

You’re thinking this is expensive. I was. But it’s not! PhoneSoap only costs $49.95 US. At that price, you should get two so you can leave one at the office (or wherever else you spend a great deal of time). I believe I need to own one myself.
