Palm has Been Bought by Alcatel, Could New Palm Phones be on the Horizon? Dylan Duarte January 1, 2015 Remember Palm? They manufactured PDAs like the PalmPilot and the Treo before going on to manufacture some of the early smartphones. While they were a force to be reckoned with before iPhones and Android devices took over the mobile market, they eventually fell behind and as a result were bought up by Hewlett-Packard in 2010 and then officially shuttered in 2011. It’s bizarre to think that some of our younger readers might not be familiar with some of Palm’s more popular early products, but they may get a chance to know Palm yet, at least in some form. The rumors started when someone noticed that Palm’s official website redirects to a site called My New Palm, which displays the slogan “smart move.” Internet slueths then discovered that HP sold Palm to a man named Nicolas Zibell, the same Nicolas Zibell who’s President of the Americas and Pacific division of mobile phone maker Alcatel One Touch. It gets better. Alcatel’s slogan is, you guessed it, “smart move.” So Palm is back in some form or another. Alcatel, while a successful company, is far from a househould name. Bringing back the Palm trademark could give them the boost they need to take their business to the next level, but that it all depends on how they handle it. via The Verge Share This With The World!
