Nintendo’s First Smartphone Game Due by the End of the Year Dylan Duarte May 8, 2015 News A few months ago Nintendo announced their intention to finally expand their mobile gaming to smartphones and tablets, and according to CEO and president Satoru Iwata, the first game to come out of that initiative is due by the end of the year. Approximately five titles will be released by March 2017 Iwata commented on the number, saying that while some may view five mobile games in a little under two years as slow output, Nintendo is taking their time to ensure that every game is a success and has the proper amount of support during and after its release. Iwata’s initial comments back in March made it clear Nintendo was approaching this new endeavor with a lot of caution and the slower release cycle seems to confirm that. Five mobile games in that amount of time isn’t a bad number at all if they’re all quality games. Of course, Nintendo isn’t out of the console market, with a new console – codenamed NX – currently in development and supposedly scheduled for a 2016 reveal. Nintendo hopes that their smartphones games will garner the attention of those who don’t normally play on consoles and maybe push them in that direction. Whatever the motive or release window, I’m really excited to see what Nintendo cooks up for mobile devices. Share This With The World!
