MEGATech Showcase: Geek Out Your Christmas Tree Beth Snyder November 24, 2014 Features With a fair portion of the US covered in snow, it’s not very hard to turn your thoughts toward Christmas even if it is a little too early in the year. Decorating the tree is something that everyone does differently, but in this Showcase I’m going to look at almost too many geeky options available. First up is the Sharknado ornament. I have already ordered one, because I absolutely adore the movies and the ornament itself makes me giggle. This great white shark is stamped with the Sharknado logo on both sides, measures 4 1/2 inches long, and can be yours for the very reasonable price of $5.99 US. Source: Geek Alerts Here’s another fun one: Big Foot. His position makes me think perhaps he needs a trip to the little yeti’s room, but that only adds to his charm. This one is made of glass, and stands 6 1/4 inches tall. If you don’t want to hang him on your tree, he’ll also stand on a flat surface. Add him to your collection for $14.99 US. Source: Geek Alerts Ignoring the perfectly awful modern Transformers movies, the original Transformers were pretty cool and deserving of a place on your tree. These are more traditionally shaped round balls that feature the Transformers logo on each side. The Autobot is blue with a red logo while the Decepticon is purple with a silver logo. Best part? One logo on each one has light up eyes, and they include batteries. Pick your favourite or take both for $9.99 US each. Source: Technabob Everybody’s holiday could use a little Serenity, right? This fabulous replica of the ship from Firefly is 6 inches long and 3 1/2 inches tall. It won’t be available until December, but you can pre-order now. It’s got a ton of details, and costs $17.99 US. Source: Geek Alerts Say what you want about Hallmark, but their Keepsake ornaments are pretty darn fabulous. Santa Yoda no exception is. He’s motion activated, and will dispense wise warnings to those who would dare peek at their presents before it’s time. He measures 3″ W x 3.53″ H x 2.28″ D, and comes with batteries included. Pick one up you can for $19.95 US. Source: 7 Gadgets Game of Thrones is HUGE, so why not add these house crest ornaments to your tree? They come in a set of four (the picture shows the front and back of each one), and measure 3 inches in diameter. These ball-shaped ornaments will add a little Westeros to your holiday for $19.99 US. Source: Geek Alerts If you’re gonna do Game of Thrones, you’ll probably also want to pick up these. Each of these ornaments (Iron Throne, a dragon, and a White Walker) measure 4 1/4 inches tall, and the set of three costs $29.99 US. Source: Geek Alerts I think I shared these last year, but they’re pretty darn neat so I’m including them again. This set of Super Mario ornaments includes Mario, Luigi, Goomba, Ghost, Item Block, Mushroom, Fire Flower and a 1up Mushroom as well as a star tree topper. They’re handmade from Perler Beads, and the full 9-piece set costs $40.00 US. Source: Technabob Go ninja, go ninja, go ninja, go! These reproductions of Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo are the real ones from the Nickelodeon TV show and not those ugly ones from the new movie. Each TMNT figure stands about 2 1/2 inches tall, and you can pick up the set of all four for $17.99 US. Source: Geek Alerts I don’t even know what to say about this one. I mean…what? Why?? I was hoping it was from a fabulous B-movie I needed to watch, but I couldn’t find anything. If you want a Santaur (half Santa, half horse) hanging on your tree, grab one of these. It stands 6 inches tall, is made of glass, and can either be hung or it’ll stand on its own. Cost is $15.00 US. Source: Nerd Approved Make your kids’ holiday happy with these Furby ornaments. Available in a set of two (one each, red and blue), these ornaments do NOT make the noise! Praise all that’s holy, they do not make the noise! Each one stands about 3 1/4 inches tall and is wearing a Santa hat. The set of two costs $11.99 US. Source: Geek Alerts It’s not Christmas without zombies, am I right? Maybe it’s just me. Anyway, this set of four ornaments takes traditional holiday characters and turns them into zombies, to terrify your children and make your guests look at you funny. You get Santa, one of his elves, a reindeer, and a snowman in a set of four for $19.99 US. Source: Laughing Squid Since you’re already hanging zombies, why not add a Walker from TWD? That’s The Walking Dead for the uninitiated. This resin Walker stands 4 1/2 inches tall, and costs $9.99 US. Source: Geek Alerts Get your Harry Potter geek on with golden snitch ornaments! Luckily, these are infinitely easier to corral than the real thing, as they are content to hang placidly from their strings on your tree rather than forcing you to chase them through the house. You know what’s even cooler than they look? You can make your own. Full instructions can be found for free at EPBOT. Source: Nerd Approved You Whovians didn’t think I’d forgotten you, did you? Never fear! Here we have the 11th Doctor as well as a sonic screwdriver in one two-ornament set. Each one measures about 4 1/2 inches tall, and you can pick them up for just $9.99 US. Source: Geek Alerts In addition to the Doctor, how about adding a Cyberman to your tree? This ornament is of blow mold construction (which I believe means is made of plastic, but I could be wrong). I can’t seem to find out how tall it is, but you can find out for yourself at a price of $10.99 US. Source: 7 Gadgets Last but not least, you need an angel for the top of your tree, right? I really love the twist here! Of course, it’s a little disconcerting to think of never being able to sleep or blink whenever you’re in view of your tree, but this 8.2? tall x 5.6? x 4.25? Weeping Angel tree topper is worth it. It’s made of plastic, and costs $19.99 US. Source: Geek Alerts Share This With The World!
