MEGATech Showcase: Star Wars Lights Up Your Christmas

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time to talk Christmas. Decorating can be a chore or a whole lot of fun, depending on how you go about it. If you’re all about tradition and things handed down from past generations, that comes with its own special set of memories. But if you’re looking to do something new, change things up a bit, maybe start some new traditions with your family, you could do worse than Star Wars.

In this showcase, we’re going to look at a variety of Star Wars holiday items, all of which light up in some way or another. Because if you’re going to decorate, you might as well go full-out obnoxious, right? I certainly think so.

First up we have a delightful string of R2-D2 lights, which can be used on a tree, of course, but could also easily become part of your year-round decor. These are made for indoor use only, and the 11-foot (3.3 meter) string features 10 little R2s with incandescent bulbs inside. You of course saw these in the picture above, but here they are on their own: Boba Fett helmet lights! This string also measures 11 feet long, with 10 Boba Fett helmets capping incandescent bulbs placed about 11.5 inches apart. Each one measures about 2.25 inches (5.7 cm) high, and this string can be used indoor or outdoor. Each one costs $24.99 US.

I love these, but they’re also a little disturbing. I think it’s because his proportions are a little off. Anyway, this of course is Chewbacca, and no self-respecting collection of Star Wars lights could do without him. These can be used indoor or outdoor, and as with the others each string gives you 10 little light-up Chewies. It appears each one is 8.5 inches (21.5 cm) tall. Add a string of Chewies to your collection for $33.00 US.

I have a confession to make. Every time I see Yoda, Weird Al starts singing “Yoda” in my head (you know, his version of “Lola” by the Kinks?). Anyway, this string of Pop! Yoda lights is entirely too cute, isn’t it? These were originally not supposed to ship until January, but apparently the Force is with us because they are in stock now! Much like you needed Chewbacca, you also need Storm Troopers! Notice how they’re pointing their weapons downward… they weren’t going to hit anything if they aimed, anyway. Each Stormtrooper stands 5 inches (12.7 cm) tall, and there are 11 of them spaced out a foot apart over about 12 feet. This comes as a set of two strings, for a hefty price of $65.95 US. Moving away from the tree, how about putting a light-up tinsel-decorated Boba Fett somewhere in your home? He stands 28 inches (71 cm) tall, and has a red scarf (for some reason, not shown in this picture). He’s in stock now, usually ships within a day, and that shipping is free. Boba Fett, however, is neither free nor even cheap. He costs $119.99 US.

Your mission is to determine the difference between these next two items. There are some obvious things, but for the most part I think they’re about the same. This particular BB-8 tinsel display stands 28 inches tall, and contains 50 bulbs. He costs $99.99 US and ships free.

And here’s the other BB-8. Looks pretty identical, doesn’t it? This one also has 50 lights, but he stands 32 inches (81.2 cm) tall, so he’s a little bigger. He can be used indoor or outdoor, and comes on a wire stand whereas the previous model did not appear to do so. This one runs a bit cheaper at $79.99 US, but does not include free shipping.
