While not as well known as their Nvidia counterparts, MSI Lightning series does have a few AMD cards as well. Usually this is limited to only one per series with AMD, they are no less a force to reckoned. MSI is proud to introduce the latest in the new MSI R7970 Lightning, current ruler of the Lightning series.
The first step to creating this monster for MSI was to remove any power limitations placed on it by software or hardware. The New Unlocked Digital Power Architecture is both a new Digital PWM controller and an unlocked BIOS on the card. The now more robust power system on the card can handle up to twice the voltage as the reference 7970 boards, and the unlocked BIOS brings the MSI Power Tune limit up by 180%.
To further ensure overclocking stability is the industry first GPU Power Reactor. This is an add-on for the GPU with additional power management and PWM controllers designed to reduce ripple in the voltage. This will ensure stability at higher overclocks than the R7970 could have sustained without it.
The next step was to keep the heat under control with all that power coursing through the MSI R7970 Lightning's veins. This task falls to the MSI Twin Frozr IV cooler. The new high density fan grill, secondary back heat plate, 100 mm fans, and their dust removal technology come together as the new Twin Frozr cooler design. As an added bonus, the solid back cooler improves the structural strength of the GPU as well.
What more could you ask for from your graphics card? I mean the MSI R7970 Lightning even comes with two racing stripes which we all know makes anything go faster. I have no idea why they are yellow since AMD is black and red while MSI is blue and white, but now I am just nitpicking.
