I’m honestly surprised it took this long for something like this to come around. I mean, what goes up must come down, right? I feel like that saying is the reason the parachute were invented. That logic applies to drones just as much as anything else and sometimes, when things don’t go right, drones come down faster than intended. I’m talking about an expensive drone suffering an expensive crash landing on the pavement.

With the SafeAir Pyrotechnic Parachute Recovery Solution, which is an incredibly complicated way to say “mini parachute,” your drone’s falling speed can be reduced all the way down to three meters per second. Now, that’s not exactly slow, and it seems entirely possible that a drone could still sustain damage at speed, but it would be a hell of a lot less damage than if it were falling without the chute.

The SafeAir parachute comes in a variety of sizes to best serve all sorts of drones. It works automatically, too, detecting free fall through a built-in chip, so you don’t have to worry about manually activating it. As of right now the SafeAir doesn’t have a price, and I doubt it’s going to be cheap. Check out the video below to see it in action. The video seems a tad too serious, but it’s exceptionally well put-together.
