Microsoft Surface Phone Patent Leak Dylan Duarte January 16, 2017 News Patent reveals are always tricky, because patents routinely never become anything more than patents; they just remain safeguarded ideas that never come to fruition. In this case, however, we have a patent from Kabir Siddiqui, who patented the Microsoft Surface kickstand and camera. Combine that with the rumors that Microsoft is trying to bring the Surface Phone to market this year and it seems like this could definitely be it. Microsoft has consistently bucked traditional design with its Surface line, and that would certainly be the case again if this is any indication as to what the Surface Phone will look like. It will be a smartphone with a flexible hinge that will allow it to fold over and become a tablet, maybe even shifting into something like Lenovo’s tent mode. Another thing to keep in mind with patent leaks is that even if the leak is pointing to something that’s on its way to market, the design could change considerably. However, when the Surface Studio patent leaked, the ensuing device looked just like the initial design, so this could very well be exactly what the Surface Phone will look like.
