Microsoft has released new details about their new tablet PC, Microsoft Surface, which will feature the new Windows RT operating system. Starting today, Surface.com is offering a limited quantity pre-order.

Microsoft Surface will be available in three different packages: a 32GB without the Touch Cover for $499, a 32GB with the Touch Cover for $599, and a 64GB with the Touch Cover for $699. The Touch Covers will come in black, white, and cyan, and will be priced at $119.99 when sold separately. Also available is the black Type Cover for $129.99; this adds moving keys for those who crave tactile feedback.

Microsoft Surface will be available for purchase on October 26 at all Microsoft store locations in the US and Canada, as well as online retailers in Australia, China, France, Germany, and Hong Kong, as well as the US and Canada. That pricing is a far cry from the earlier rumors of a $199 launch for the Surface, don’t you think?
