Mario and Luigi Are Headed to Universal Studios

Yes, it’s true that Nintendo hasn’t been doing all that well with console sales in recent years, but one area where Nintendo has always done well is merchandising. Those iconic characters compel us to buy just about anything that has Yoshi, Bowser or Samus Aran on it. And now Nintendo is going to leverage that power by going to Universal Studios.

That’s right. Mario, Luigi and the rest of the Nintendo gang are getting into the theme park business. As Kotaku says, it’s sort of like a real world version of Nintendo Land. To be fair, we aren’t getting a full fledged, standalone Nintendo theme park. Instead, there will be “major attractions” at Universal Studios and its other theme parks that “will feature Nintendo’s most famous characters and games.”

How exactly this partnership will be implemented remains to be seen. If I were to venture a guess, I’m sure there would be some sort of stage show put together, maybe with the Pikmin or Pokemon for the kids. Maybe there’ll be a roller coaster ride themed after the stage in Donkey Kong Country or a virtual reality ride styled after Star Fox. (Do a barrel roll!)

And maybe, if we’re lucky, they’ll give us a legit Mario Kart go-kart racing track at Universal Studios… though how they implement the notorious blue shell would be something else.
