I don’t know too many people who are still playing Pokemon GO anymore. Maybe the novelty has worn off or it has become too difficult to find any new Pokemon after collecting most of the more common ones. That doesn’t mean interest in Pokemon has waned, of course, and to keep feeding into the craze, the Pokemon Company has now surprised us with a new title: Magikarp Jump.

The new game just launched today and, as you’ve likely guessed from the title, it stars everyone’s favorite flopping fish. Other Pokemon make cameos, but Magikarp is the star here. You catch one, feed it, train it, and then enter it into battles with other flopping fish to see whose can jump the highest.

The gameplay is meant to be decidedly simple, since everything you do can be accomplished with a couple taps of your thumb. As you make your way through the journey, you’ll upgrade your Trainer Rack and uncover different colors and patterns. It is presumably much less hazardous to your health than Pokemon GO, unless you count the inevitable thumb injuries you’ll sustain from raising this mostly useless of pocket monsters.

Pokemon: Magikarp Jump is available via the App Store for iOS and the Google Play Store for Android. Like so many other mobile games these days, it’s offered as a free download with no shortage of opportunity for optional in-app purchases if you’re tired of grinding it out for diamonds.
