Hector Xavier Monsegur, known on the internet as Sabu, was once the leader of the hacker group known as LulzSec. However, since June of last year he’s been cooperating with the FBI, helping them locate and arrest Monsegur’s former cohorts. Three members were arrested Tuesday morning and two others are being charged with conspiracy. Just days ago, 25 hackers reportedly linked to the group Anonymous were arrested across Europe and South America, though there’s no evidence linking their arrests with Monsegur’s cooperation.

Monsegur has even been maintaining his online presence, in an attempt at misdirection, while working out of the FBI offices. One of his handlers was quoted saying that about ninety percent of what Monsegur has been saying online is false.

This war has been waging for some time now and this is probably the biggest blow yet to the hackers, with an unnamed FBI official even saying that they’re “chopping off the head of LulzSec.”
