I’ve been debating whether to write about this or not. When PowerSkin first announced their case for HTC Thunderbolt, I pre-ordered it immediately, because battery life on a smartphone leaves an awful lot to be desired. Having a phone case, which is something you need, that has a second battery enclosed in it to double the life of your phone between charges, seemed like a godsend. Which it was…for a bit. I had to RMA the first one within 30 days. The second one lasted almost four months. The third one lasted about nine months, but then I was out of RMA time and they would no longer replace it even though it is defective in the exact same way as the first two. So be it, I guess. I can only assume that their cases for other devices do not have the same issues with refusing to take or hold a charge.

Anyway, this is their new case for the iPhone 5. It is slimmer than their other models, which is nice, because the case I had was at least twice as thick as my phone. Fully charged, it provides an additional 1,500 mAh of power capacity for your phone, which is supposed to increase talk time by about 6.5 hours. The case can be turned on or off with its own separate power button, and it features LED lights that show how much power is available in the case’s battery. As with all of their cases, it is made of recycled shock-absorbing material to protect your phone even if you drop it.

If you would like one of these, you’ll have to shell out about $80.00 US. Please, don’t let my bad experience with the quality of their products dissuade you from buying one, because other people have had great luck with them. Sometimes you just get a lemon, and have to write it off to a learning experience. When the case worked, it was the best thing I ever owned.
