Gigabyte G1.Sniper Motherboard Fires its Second Shot! James White August 6, 2011 Press Release A while back you may have read the review for the Gigabyte G1.Assassin motherboard at Futurelooks.com. Many people and I wondered why Gigabyte used the Intel 1366 socket instead of the newer 1155 socket. The answer to this question seems to be “it was just the beginning.” Gigabyte has announced the first in what I can only assume to be new versions of the G1 line, the Gigabyte G1.Sniper2. The G1.Sniper2 will be leading the way into the battle this time with the move to socket 1155 and Sandy Bridge. And before you say its just a socket change, this motherboard comes with some all new loadout for this war. This loadout will include built-in Creative 2 Soundblaster 20K2 and Killer E2100 NIC from the previous G1 series. Switching to the Z68 chipset provides Intel Smart Response on top of Intel QuickSync. It also brings support for the LucidLogix Virtu GPU to dynamically switch between the on-board and dedicated GPU(s) to save power during down time. It also has PCI Express Gen. 3, Gigabyte’s TouchBIOS (UEFI based BIOS), and an included front panel with USB 3.0 and quick boost button. While you do drop down to 2-way SLI/CrossfireX and dual channel memory, you gain so much from the second generation i7 Sandy Bridge processors and new chipset. This is an overall upgrade in the board design and does provide G1 as an option for socket 1155. Gigabyte and its partners are rightfully proud of the G1 line and the new G1.Sniper2.
