Expect a Cheaper Google Pixel 2 with Waterproof Protection? Michael Kwan January 26, 2017 News While the original Google Pixel and Pixel XL were only unleashed upon the world three months ago, there’s already plenty of chatter about what Google is cooking up for the sequel. At least three scrumptious tidbits about the Pixel 2 have surfaced, each of which will get different people excited for different reasons. According to the latest rumors circulating the web, the Google Pixel 2 will “definitely” be waterproof. That’s one feature that was sorely missing from the first Pixel and Pixel XL, a decision that Google had to make in order to meet a very tight deadline and to accommodate the camera choice. That’s one. Second, Google is very much committed to ensuring that the Pixel 2 has one of the best cameras in the business. This is much less about about megapixel count. Instead, they want to “master low light photography” this time around, not unlike what HTC was trying to accomplish with its UltraPixel cameras. More features instead of more pixels, not ironically on a phone called the Pixel. And finally, if your main issue with the first generation was price, you will be pleased to hear that Google is at least considering a lower-cost version of the Pixel 2. Whether this means there will be three phones — a Pixel 2, a Pixel 2 XL, and a Pixel 2 mini? — remains to be seen. The top end model could actually be about $50 more than the current generation, thanks to the possible inclusion of expensive Snapdragon 83X chips. They’re also testing Intel chips.
