Elop: The Nokia Phone Brand Is Dead Dylan Duarte April 28, 2014 Just like that, Nokia smartphones go out not with a bang, but with a whimper. Stephen Elop, the former CEO of Nokia who is now working with Microsoft, has confirmed that the Nokia phone brand is dead and Microsoft will no longer use it to represent their smartphones. Commenting further, Elop explained that the Microsoft Mobile Oy name that was thrown around in rumors only exists for legal reasons regarding the merger and is not a brand that will be seen on a consumer level. Whew, good thing we don’t have to start saying “Microsoft Mobile Oy.” Microsoft has yet to decide on a replacement branding for their smartphones and according to Elop the company is working on that decision right now. Can I suggest anything without “oy” in it? via Slashgear Share This With The World!
