Several of our local National Guard units are leaving this week to head to 90 days of training before going to Afghanistan. I am feeling incredibly lucky, because the one that left today is the one my other half is a member of…except he just came home from Iraq less than a year ago. Which means he didn’t have to go with them. He is, however, planning to head to their 90-day training with them next week to provide support. My heart goes out to all those leaving, all those left behind, and all those who have to deal with this on any level. Three months in country is going to be hard enough…I hate to think what it’ll be like when he goes for real.
