Black Ops 2 Offering a Slightly Less Linear Experience Dylan Duarte June 7, 2012 Despite the popularity of open-world sandbox games, the blockbuster Call of Duty franchise has featured one linear adventure after the next. While the upcoming Black Ops 2 is in no way open-world, it does promise more choices than any other installment in the series. During an E3 demo, Treyarch displayed various areas in the game in which the player is allowed to make a choice. For example, in one mission, when the player reached the end of a broken offramp, they could either rappel down and take the fight to the ground below or stay perched atop the offramp and snipe their enemies from above. Activision VP Daniel Suarez commented that different routes will ultimately take the player to the same destination, but they’ll experience different encounters along the way. There are also the new Strike Force missions, which sound a little RTS-ish in nature. You can actually fail these missions and keep playing, with your failure having an effect on the story. Although these might not sound like huge changes, it’s good to hear that Treyarch is getting more ambitious with a series that’s been criticized for its stale formula. via Polygon Share This With The World!
