Best Buy Teases Us with HP TouchPad webOS Tablet

It’s undeniable that the tablet wars are heating up, but most people are focused on the iPad and Android. Some people might be paying attention to the BlackBerry PlayBook too… but lurking in the background is another device that is well worth considering: the HP TouchPad.

The TouchPad, which is really coming by way of Palm (which was acquired by HP), is pretty much the tablet version of the Palm Pre, complete with the exquisite webOS platform. I have a Palm Pre 2 myself and I think the true multitasking though “cards” on the homescreen is just brilliant, as is the gesture area for quick swipes. You’ll see many of these features mimicked on the PlayBook, actually.

Core specs include the 1.2GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 9.7-inch XGA capacitive multitouch display, 1.3MP front webcam, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, WiFi, and Beats Audio integration.

We’ve been hearing that the HP TouchPad will finally become available this June and it looks like everything is going according to plan. Best Buy has just erected a preview page for the TouchPad, highlighting some of its key information. I don’t anticipate webOS getting the same kind of market share as iOS or Android, but it is a seriously solid alternative that gets overlooked far too often.
