Last week, famed YouTuber and all around good guy “MKBHD” Marques Brownlee tweeted out that he thinks the next iteration of the mobile operating system is going to be called Android Peppermint. He even took Wite-Out (?) to his red Andy the Android figure, turning the little mascot into a candy cane. Sort of.

As I’m sure you already know, (almost) every major iteration of Android not only has a numerical reference for the version, but also a dessert-themed nickname that has followed an alphabetical order. You might remember when we got Android 1.6 Donut, for example, which was followed by Android 2.0 Eclair, Android 2.2 Froyo, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and so on.

The newest version, which you’ll find on devices like the Pixel 2 XL, is Android 8.0 Oreo. Following this, it’s pretty safe to assume that the next version will be Android P. We just have to figure out what that P stands for. It’s also not immediately obvious whether Android P is going be Android 8.1 or Android 9.0 or what.

So, we’re back to the guessing game again. MKBHD says it’s going to be Android Peppermint, based on nothing else (as far as we know) other than the fact that Peppermint is pretty common and it does indeed start with the letter P.

Google exec Hiroshi Lockheimer replied back asking Marques what if there was a peppermint-flavored Pocky instead. They’ve done brand partnerships before, like KitKat and Oreo, so this wouldn’t be completely out of the question.

What else do you think it could be? Android Pumpkin Pie or Android Pumpkin Spice sounds a little too basic (and too fall oriented) to me. Android Peanut Buster Parfait? Android Pancake? Go a little fancy with Android Panna Cotta? Android Popsicle would have a bit more whimsy to it. How about Android Pineapple, Android Puff Pastry or Android Pudding Pop?
