AMD takes Design Tips from Canned SPAM James White June 14, 2011 Well COMPUTEX and E3 brought us more AMD Bulldozer performance figures. The new numbers rank the upcoming flagship processor anywhere from below the 5 year old AMD Athlon 64 to 30% above the i7 2600K. I personal believe none of those figures, and I wish people would just stop doing this every time a new CPU or GPU comes out. Setting these “figures” aside, lets talk about something I do know. AMD decided to show off the boxes for the new FX Bulldozer processors in the same booth as their Dirt 3 proof of concept demo at E3. First, glad to see they went with the new art style which you can find my opinions on here. Secondly, while the 4-core FX Bulldozers will have the new white box, traditional black is reserved for the 8-core top of the line. The 8-core chip also gets an upgrade from paper box to metal container. One that I can only describe as a large, black SPAM can (see pic above). I am sure I could look up the actual name for this geometric shape, but SPAM can is so much easier to remember. A lot like SPAM, AMD has been a brand many either don’t know what it is, don’t find it appealing, or love it no matter what people think. I think this was a good idea all around. The fact I already have ideas about other uses for the “SPAMD” can is a good thing. I know many of you use one of the boxes from your build to keep cables, spare parts, manuals, etc. in after your rig is built, and I welcome the “SPAMD” can if for that reason alone. While I can’t tell you how the processor performs (and neither can anyone else really), the packaging gets an A+ from me. I am just not sure if I want use it for spare computer parts, or for a fried SPAM and cheese sandwich I suddenly have a craving for. Image Source: 4Gamer.net Share This With The World!
