Amazon Suspends SimCity Digital Sales in Light of Server Issues Dylan Duarte March 7, 2013 Hey, Electronic Arts? The Internet told you so. When EA announced that the SimCity “reboot” would launch with DRM that required players to be connected to the EA servers at all times in order to play, the Internet launched into an uproar, citing previous attempts at similar DRM that led to disastrous results. And sure enough, just as the online gods prophesied, EA has been experiencing server issues since the game launched on Tuesday and players who purchased the game haven’t been able to play. It looks like those issues are finally being resolved, but after 48 hours of downtime, online retailer Amazon has suspended digital sales of the game. Consumers are still able to purchase boxed copies of the game, but that comes with ample warning of the server issues. This is a pretty monumental catastrophe on the part of EA and the fact that the Internet saw it coming must really be embarrassing.
