A New Star Wars Battlefront is on the Way Dylan Duarte April 17, 2015 News Taking advantage of the Star Wars hype from yesterday’s The Force Awakens trailer and the current, ongoing Star Wars Celebration event over in Anaheim, EA has announced that a new Star Wars: Battlefront game is on the way, slated for a PC, PS4 and Xbox One release this fall. The trailer is embedded below and it looks stunning. There will be no single player campaign, which is a bummer for those like me who really enjoy single player campaigns, but don’t take that to mean that the game will lack in story. In fact, a free bit of DLC will directly tie Return of the Jedi into JJ Abram’s The Force Awakens. If you’re trying to go into Episode VII completely blind, skip the next paragraph. The sandy planet seen in yesterday’s trailer isn’t Tatooine, but a planet called Jakku, and the wreckage seen on the surface is from the last great battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance, a battle that took place after the Empire’s defeat on Endor. It makes sense. Sure, the rebels blew up the second Death Star in a battle that also saw the destruction of a lot of Star Destroyers, but there was still a sizable Empire force out there, and in the Star Wars Battlefront DLC you can help wipe them out. It must feel weird to play as the Empire in that particular battle, knowing that canonically you’re on the losing team. The free DLC will be playable on December 1st for those who pre-order the game and December 8th for everyone else. Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18th.
