Hotels are about to get a little more futuristic as the Wynn Las Vegas is putting an Amazon Echo in all of their hotel rooms – 4,748 in all – by summer 2017. If room service and housekeeping weren’t luxurious enough for you, now you can adjust the curtains, lights, and more by shouting at a robot from your bed.

Not all Echo functionality will be available to guests, specifically the functions that require the use of your Amazon account. There’s no word on whether those functions will be opened up later on; it’s possible that the hotel is using this initial roll out as something of a test run.

The real question is how comfortable guests will feel with a microphone in the room. You can always turn it off, and for the more paranoid guests there’s the option of unplugging it, too. Time will tell if digital assistants become a standard hotel room perk like “cable TV” and “free wi-fi” or if they wind up like Google Glasses, exciting new technology held back by very justified privacy concerns.
