Want an Apple Pencil with Your iPhone 7? Michael Kwan September 5, 2016 News Rumors are swirling abound for what we can expect from the upcoming iPhone 7. Some people are saying it`ll be the least exciting update to iPhone ever, since the bigger update will come next year to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. But what if you could use the Apple Pencil on the new iPhone? Would that make it exciting again? Curiously, this possibility popped up in a Tim Cook interview with NDTV earlier this year. Not too many people (if anyone) paid attention at the time, but now the idea has come back to the forefront. NDTV: Has that voice never come to you? For example when you launched the pencil and you know what Steve said,’ if you see a stylus they blew it’, when you launched that pencil? Tim Cook: Well we launched a pencil not a stylus, first of all, and there’s a big difference and the things that people are doing with this pencil, I think that Steve would have loved. He loved to help people create. And if you’ve ever seen what can be created with that pencil on an iPad or an iPhone, it’s really unbelievable. You should really show some of these to your audience.” Read those last couple of lines again. The Apple Pencil was originally introduced late last year as an accessory for the iPad Pro. Thus far, it’s been an accessory exclusive to the iPad Pro, since you can’t even use it on the other iPads, let alone on any other Apple products. But why not? Apple and Samsung are no strangers to “borrowing” inspiration from one another and one of the defining features of the Galaxy Note7 is its S Pen. Steve Jobs may have laughed at having a “stylus” for your phone, but Tim Cook seems to have a completely different philosophy in regards to the Apple Pencil. It probably wouldn’t make too much sense if the Apple Pencil to accompany your iPhone 7 was as large as the full size version for the iPad Pro. So, they might make a smaller version that looks, well, a lot more like a stylus. And if they’re getting rid of the headphone jack, I doubt they’ll re-implement another hole to place the Apple Pencil. Will it attach magnetically to the side of the iPhone 7 too? Or are we just reading a little too much into a couple of lines from the Apple CEO? Via Daring Fireball Share This With The World!
